International comparisons and maths education
This Maths Snapshot relates to the principle
set out in the
ACME blueprint that policies are joined-up, long-term,
evidence-informed, transparent and well-designed.
ACME sets out:
- information about how international league table tests are
drawn on in mathematics education policy
- the difficulty in understanding all parts of an education
system from international comparisons
- how education reforms in England are inspired by international
practice
- considerations to take into account when using international
comparisons to inform education policy reform.
In the
paper, ACME recommends that:
- international comparisons in policy development are informed by
evidence-based research and expert analysis
- policies are transparently and coherently imported,
adapted and implemented.
