Maths for all to 18
This Maths Snapshot relates to the principle
set out in the
ACME blueprint that all young people study appropriate and
engaging mathematics up to the age of 18.
ACME sets out:
- the post-16 mathematics landscape
- the challenges associated with delivering the expanding range
of post-16 qualifications, including teacher supply
- the need to establish a clear suite of qualifications which are
engaging and relevant to all users
- the necessity that the details of these qualifications is
clearly communicated to universities and employers.
In the paper, ACME recommends that:
- a suite of qualifications is established that meets the
mathematical needs of all post-16 learners
- a strategy is needed to ensure a sufficient supply of qualified
teachers
- universities and employers must be encouraged to signal
the importance of such mathematics qualifications.

ACME's Maths Snapshot 'Teachers of maths: supply,
training and development' discusses the supply and development
of teachers in more detail.
