ACME Responds to Rose Review Interim Report
12 December 2008
Commenting on the Rose Review, Dame Professor Julia Higgins FRS,
Chair of the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME),
said:
"ACME welcomes the Rose Review Interim Report published
yesterday. We are pleased that the interim recommendations,
including key proposals submitted by ACME, are on the right
track.
"In particular, we welcome the inclusion of the 'Mathematical
Understanding' area of learning. What will be critical is how the
whole curriculum reflects how mathematics permeates the five other
areas of learning outlined by Rose and also links back to the core
skills."
However, there is a lot of further work to be done in detailing
and refining the actual content of the primary curriculum before
the final report is published. ACME will be looking to engage
closely with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and
other key organisations in this next phase of the review to make
certain the new curriculum bolsters the progression of mathematical
development during the primary years and encourages children to
continue with mathematics into secondary school and beyond."
