Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME)

New ACME Head of Secretariat

28 July 2011

ACME has appointed a new Head of Secretariat for ACME - Dr Rosalind Mist. Rosalind will join Martin Smith, ACME Manager and Marie-Claude Dupuis, ACME Officer on 3rd October.

Rosalind comes to us from SCORE (Science Community Representing Education). SCORE is a partnership of organisations, which aims to improve science education in UK schools and colleges by supporting the development and implementation of effective education policy and which comprises the Association for Science Education, Institute of Physics, Royal Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and Society of Biology.  Rosalind was the first SCORE manager and has helped shape SCORE during its first three years. Rosalind's degree was in physics and she then moved on to do a PhD and subsequently a post-doc in space plasma physics analysing satellite data, in the mathematics department at QMUL. Her interest in space science is something she has maintained, and aside from helping to develop Girlguiding UK's space and science resources and writing children's astronomy books, she is currently Chair of STFC's small awards panel and sits on various STFC and RCUK advisory panels. Before moving into the education policy, Rosalind spent seven years at Ecsite-uk (now the Association of Science and Discovery Centres). During her time there she supported science centre staff on collaborative projects, as well as helping to develop the network.
