ACME letter on baseline assessment
13 November 2014
ACME has written a
letter to the Secretary of State Nicky Morgan regarding the
baseline assessment in mathematics.
In the letter
ACME sets out several issues with proposals for the baseline
assessment. These issues include that very young children
will be assessed but the scores will not take into account whether
children are born in summer and that schools may have an
undesirable incentive to depress scores in order to increase
measured progress, especially if this means attaining extra
funding.
Nick Gibb responded
to this and another letter, detailing
that the points raised by ACME had been noted and would be passed
on to officials in the Department for Education working on
mathematics reforms.
